The First LRD Heritage Holdall 001/2020
The concept for the first LRD Heritage Holdall 001/2020 was born from a telephone conversation with Simon de Burton, the UK-based journalist and author whose work appears in luxury, automotive, and lifestyle publications worldwide.
While discussing an article for an early 2020 issue of Motor Sport magazine about one of my bespoke leather designs, we explored Simon’s lifelong passion for cars—particularly early Land Rovers. This sparked the idea of creating a Jordan Bespoke holdall inspired by the iconic profile of a Land Rover front wing—a shape instantly recognizable on every classic Land Rover, from the Series One of 1948 to the last old-style Defender produced in 2016.
The idea quickly evolved. I proposed several design elements for the 001/2020 Holdall: incorporating the paint colour of Simon’s Marine Blue Land Rover through a special leather dyeing process by our artisan tannery in Tuscany. The handles and shoulder straps would be crafted from dark blue, 1960s-style seat belt webbing, chosen for both practicality and striking colour contrast.
To add a personal touch, I invited Simon to send photographs of his two beloved Land Rovers. These images were artfully combined to create a bespoke, unique lining—ensuring the holdall always carried a reminder of home during travels.
To deepen the connection to Simon’s favourite, a beautifully patinated Series IIA model, he provided a close-up shot of its distinctive front registration plate bearing the number AKM 100B. This was recreated in black leather with the characters embroidered in an ‘alloy’ shade thread, then positioned on the offside front of the bag to mimic the plate’s placement on the vehicle.
As a finishing detail, Simon Jordan hot-stamped Simon de Burton’s initials onto a dark blue leather replica of the Land Rover’s front grille panel, completing a truly unique bespoke piece.
A Customer’s Reflection
Simon de Burton said the holdall exceeded all expectations:
"Having written about luxury goods for over 20 years, I have seen countless examples of high-end leather luggage. I can honestly say the fit, finish, hardware, and attention to detail on my bespoke Land Rover holdall are second to none. Simon Jordan fully explained the process in advance and provided a detailed design sheet for my approval before manufacturing began, ensuring the specification was absolutely precise and allowing for any last-minute adjustments."
"This bag is a delight. Its sensible dimensions, supple top-grade leather, and detachable shoulder strap make it practical and versatile. The exceptional quality means it fits right in at the swankiest luxury car launches, yet it’s robust enough for camping trips in the Land Rover or airport runs on my motorcycle. The stitching, zips, and hardware are guaranteed for life."
"It will improve with age, and I fully expect to pass it down to my children—along with the legacy of my Land Rovers. One thing’s certain: no matter how many others desire the Heritage Holdall, no one else will claim it at the airport carousel."
